Bittersweet

I'll have to admit, I'm getting pretty good at this July posting. It seems that's when I actually have time to sit down and think about what all needs to be here. I haven't written since January, so I'll try to go in chronological order.
Brandon and I did get to go on that Spring Break trip to Vegas. It was March Madness week, so the place was a buzz. We had a great time with Amanda and Justin Willmann and Syd and Blake.
Right around that same time, Brandon was promoted at work. (Although he may argue promotion is not the best word to use.) The Controller of Lewis Energy resigned, and they asked Brandon to take over. He had about 2 weeks of training- while he was still doing his old job (financial reporting)- which he is actually still doing, too. (??????? No- he doesn't get both salaries!) So, we went back to long work days and later dinners. It has been a challenge for him and has made him work a little outside his comfort zone, but he is really good at it. And, although he's not crazy about new responsibility of managing people, he and I are both very thankful for his job.
Things got a little crazy in education this year. Fortunately, because of my years of experience, I was not on the chopping block. I have several friends who either transferred campuses, lost their jobs, or were worried about losing their jobs. It's a very sad situation that everyone was put in. I am very thankful that I will be at the same campus next year, in the same classroom, teaching the same grade level! I had an awesome girls trip to a resort here in San Antonio in April with my high school girlfriends that we have decided to turn into an annual trip. It was such a great time with girls I love!
And- Brooks- I don't even know where to begin. I guess I'll start in the Spring with the tongue incident. Basically, he almost bit his tongue off- not just the tip- but about half way back. It was the nastiest thing I have ever seen. After that, he wouldn't eat much. I thought maybe it was infected because his breath was awful, too. Nope! He had strep throat! and 2 weeks later, he had it again! After we got that all healed, he was back to his normal self. This summer we have been to Sea World, The San Antonio Zoo, Yogi Bear Jellystone Park with the Currys, Waxahachie, and weekly swim lessons. He's officially potty trained, and he did an excellent job learning. He's absolutely brilliant. He has a very high vocabulary and NEVER stops talking. He's physically ahead of where he should be, especially with hand-eye cooridination. And, it seems like he grows every other day. He has definite moments of hard-headedness and has become a pro at fit throwing. But, then there are the moments that he kisses my head while I'm getting him dressed. Moments that simply melt our hearts. Although there are days that I use every bit of patience I have with him, going back to work is going to be very difficult this year. We're best buds now...
The most significant thing that has happened since January is the passing of Aunt JJ. From the moment I found out that she had cancer, I prayed every single time she crossed my mind, which was just about every 5 minutes. It all happened so quickly. As soon as she found out it was pancreatic cancer, I knew I had to get there. I was able to hug her, hold her hand, tell her I love her, and be in awe of her in her last days. She was so strong and so loved by many. She knew that if nothing else came of her diagnosis, I was having daily conversations with God through prayer, I was going back to church, and I was reading and searching The Bible for answers to help me understand why she was going through this. It also brought my cousins and I closer together again. I learned a lot about being courageous, humbled, and Godly from my cousins. Watching them rally around their Mom that last weekend is one of the most memorable things I have witnessed in my 29 years. I have never been through anything so life-changing. It's only 2 months later...I still struggle with her passing and half moments of self-pity because we are left here without her, but I know we will one day be reunited. It's still surreal how quickly everything happened... PS. Cancer sucks...
Maybe I'll make it back on here before January this time, but I'm not making any promises!
Until then, be blessed,
